Leadership: What We Are Looking For
For the Care of Groups
1. Enthusiasm - Enthusiasm is contagious and a big part of this is working every day to have a positive attitude. It is believing that nothing is impossible with God.
2. Clear Testimony – Be able to give a clear direct witness to what Christ has done within your life.
3. Dedication – Be dedicated to living by the Bible, being led by the Spirit and dedicated to the discipleship vision and leadership of Spring Creek Assembly of God Church. Be dedicated to building the Connect Small Groups and accomplishing all that God has called us to do.
4. Spirit-led Life – Not only be filled with the Holy Spirit, but fellowship daily with the Holy Spirit. Effective workers are those who are sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
5. Time– Leaders should not be the ones bogged down with their own problems. One should be free from bondage in order to serve wholly and effectively. Have a sense of calling or purpose for building disciples so that your ministry becomes more of a priority rather than ordinary volunteerism.
6. Consistency – Consistent and committed to living the Christian lifestyle with a daily commitment to prayer as a top priority. Consistency in participating in Spring Creek Assembly congregational services.
7. Faithfulness – To be faithful in giving of financial resources, time, and talents. To be diligent and obedient to the purpose of equipping believers to walk fully in all that God has for us.
On average, people remember 5% of what they hear, 10% of what they see, 25% of what they read, 55% of what they discuss, 65% of what they create with others, and 95% of what they teach others.
Group Growth Principles
1. The Principle of Belonging
Before we can do anything else in a small group, we need to feel we belong – this is where the curious and cautious begin their faith journey.
Some people never grow spiritually because they have never felt accepted into God’s family.
2. The Principle of Support
The principles of support and belonging are basic to developing people. People don’t need awareness of or desire for God in order to want to belong and to be supported.
Often it is at this stage of spiritual growth, when people are accepted and embraced just as they are that they first become open to the Good News and accept Jesus as their Savior.
Countless stories illustrate the incredible ways people grow and develop when no matter what their circumstances, they get rid of the rocks in their lives, choke out the world’s definition of success, and sink their roots deeply into the grace of God.
3. The Principle of Learning Retention
People soon discover that they remember more and learn better in a group than when they are alone.
Leaders can increase members’ learning retention simply by making their group interactive, so that everyone invests in what the group learns and each person becomes both a learner and a teacher.
4. The Principle of Life Transformation
This principle involves moving beyond accepting the truth of God’s Word in their head and transferring it to their hearts.
As people in a small group feel accepted for who they are, and are supported by people who care about them, they recognize they need help to make the changes they desire.
5. The Principle of Accountability
Becoming accountable to one another is a logical next step after people’s lives have been transformed by the Holy Spirit.
They have moved from knowing Jesus as Savior to a deep desire to make Him Lord of their lives.
6. The Principle of Experimentation
We become more open to experimenting with new behaviors and developing gifts and talents. The principle of experimentation says we are more likely to do this with a small group cheering us on than in a large group or on our own.
7. The Principle of Risk-Taking
People move from knowing Jesus as Savior and Lord to becoming His servants, using the gifts He has given them in ways that grow others in their faith as well.
8. The Principle of Synergy
Synergy is when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
9. The Principle of Decision Making & Problem Solving
God moves people in their spiritual development to the point of leadership.
10. The Principle of Fluidity & Flexibility
We don’t need to get everything right or feel completely responsible for all the outcomes. We simply need to follow the law of love and set people free to develop as God leads them.
People have greater commitment and motivation in teams where they can contribute according to their gifts and talents.
